Manitoba Ag Days Seminar Session Highlights: Tuesday
It has been two years in the making and the seminar program committee has done another phenomenal job organizing the 2017 40th Anniversary Manitoba Ag Days Program. You will want to visit www.agdays.com ahead of time to review the program agenda. Over 60 speakers will touch on an array of important and valuable topics throughout the three days of the show. The seminars will take place in both the MNP and FCC theatres conveniently located inside the Brandon Keystone Centre.
The MNP theatre is located in the amphitheater next to MNP Hall across from Westman Place Arena. Tuesday morning’s program will focus on the importance of Safety in the Agriculture industry. With the increasing level of grain being stored on farm in the Canadian marketplace, Glen Blahey from the Canadian Agricultural Association will share strategies from implementing safer practices when handling grain. At 10:15 Angela Fox from Eddystone Manitoba, will share her “Because I love you list” which she developed after the tragic loss of her husband. STARS shock and Trauma Air Rescue Society will follow Angela sharing the importance to STARS ambulance to rural areas. Lastly, wrapping up the morning is Curtis Weber. Curtis will share his personal journey to “Triumph over Tragedy” and the importance of thinking about safety in everything we do. Curtis was a 17 year old Saskatchewan teen who found himself fighting for his life after just three days of work on his new job.
The afternoon in the MNP Theatre starts with Tere Stykalo, Regional Ag Leader with MNP, who will facilitate a panel discussion with farmers who have or are currently going through “Farm Succession Planning”. Following at 1:45, Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture, Renate Jochum and Abbey Chubaty will share their winning messages on “Explaining GMO’s to Non Farmers” and “Old McDonald Had A Far, But What About Mrs. MacDonald?” To finish off the day come celebrate 40 Years as we hear from four former Manitoba Ag Days Inventor Showcase winners on their passion and experience in ground breaking technology and where they are now.
The FCC theatre will be located at the south end of the Westman Place Arena. Tuesday morning’s program will be hosted by Manitoba Canola Growers. You will want to stop in for an update on canola diseases and management strategies to mitigate loss with Angela Brackenreed and Justine Cornelson, Regional Agronomists with Canola Council. Following Patti Miller, President of Canola Council of Canada (CCC) will share an update on canola market access around the world and the work CCC has been doing to maintain access to vital markets. To finish off the morning, Thomas Mielke, Executive Director of Global Research & Analysis, OIL WORLD will join us all the way from Germany to highlight the growing dependence of consumers worldwide on Canadian canola as well as share the latest supply and demand estimates and pricing outlook.
Ag Days Gives Back Awards presentation will kick off the afternoon in the FCC Theater at 1pm. Following Jordyn Ham, student from MacGregor Collegiate and Alice Rook, student from Vincent Massey Collegiate will share their experience from attending the World Food Prize conference in Des Moines, Iowa; “Let Food Be Thy Medicine”.
We are honored that Manitoba Dignitaries, The Honourable Ralph Eichler, Minister of Agriculture, His Worship Rick Crest, Mayor City of Brandon and The Honourable Brian Pallister, Premier of Manitoba will be addressing the 40th Anniversary crowd at 1:30pm. At 2:30pm, Angela Santigo, Co-Founder of the Little Potato Company, will share the company story and the lessons she and her team have learned in creating and championing an entirely new produce category for Creamers. To end the day the very popular Larry Weber will provide a grain market outlook.
