The extreme risk facing producers today has brought both opportunity and threats. Now more than ever we need to include risk management planning as part of the annual review process. Just like two raincoats don’t keep your feet dry in a storm, more insurance doesn’t always help you. Understanding your exposure and how to effectively layer your risk management options to maximize coverage is critical.

Jodi Suchoplas is from Durban, Mb. She is happily married with four busy kids. Together with her Dad she runs 340 pairs of cows. She has been around cattle her whole life. She enjoys the country lifestyle of working outdoors along side animals with her family. They calve late April to hopefully avoid Spring storms. They have been banding their calves for about ten years now . They band them as newborns. They are handled quickly and gently and sent back to their mothers so they both have low stress. Jodi is very passionate about teaching producers the correct techniques of castrating calves with an elastrator, so they don’t make mistakes and have costly vet bills or market losses.

Jodi’s castration presentation will focus on common mistakes that can lead to costly vet bills and high market losses. Join Jodi as she talks about the safety of the producer from the mother cow, while handling the calf. There will be a video demonstration as well as an interactive presentation with a demo calf to show how to correctly apply a rubber band while using an elastrator. This presentation will be great for everyone, from the most advanced, to the beginner cattle producers!

Agriculture is big business. Are the days of dirt under your fingernails numbered, when it comes to primary producer agriculture? Join Kristjan as he shares his perspective of the real profits being made by farm leaders who have a vision and choose to run the farm as a business. Loving farming as a lifestyle is one thing, but ensuring the farm continues to grow into a complex legacy is another thing entirely. To choose a life of boardrooms and negotiations over tractor cabs and bin bottoms, are you ready?

The world is moving from a unipolar environment dominated by the United States to a multipolar environment with rising and falling great powers. For 100+ years, agricultural trade has been defined by surplus producers exporting product abroad, but in this more competitive and protectionist multipolar landscape, political risk will define future market access. Will former importers attempt to become more self-sufficient, and even export themselves? Tremendous opportunity lies ahead for producers able to see the world as it is, rather than expecting it to behave as it has for generations. Jacob is certain to challenge your thinking!

This presentation will explore key strategies to optimize farm performance through data-driven decision-making. Starting with “small data” before embracing big data, can help elevate your farm’s performance. By comparing your own farm against broader benchmarks, you’ll learn how to answer 3 crucial questions: How good are you? How good can you be? And how do you get there?
