Ketan Kaushish, President, UKKO AG @Kaushishketan

Collecting crop data may give a very good indication on where the potential problems could be in an operation but it does not provide the insight on if, when, and where to take the required action. Who has data that they have never used? Data never speaks for itself, it always has to be interpreted to mean something. Ukko Ag has designed predictive tools that not only help farmers optimize their operations, but also provide a birds eye view for retailers and agronomist.

Laura Schmidt, Production Specialist – West, Manitoba Pulse @MbPulseGrowers

What does the next chapter of soybean and pea production hold for Manitoba farmers? With a longer history of soybeans grown, more experienced land has both promise and drawbacks. And as peas expand their range, what should farmers be aware of?  Pest pressures have expanded across the province and dry conditions have brought some of these pests to the forefront. Let’s dive into MPSG-funded research on the topic and where we’re heading into proteins, pests and rotations.

Lana Shaw, Research Manager, South East Research Farm @se_researchfarm

Lana will discuss cover cropping and intercropping approaches and considerations for the Western Prairies geared to grain farmers. The presentation will include research trial results from Redvers, Saskatchewan and locations throughout Manitoba. Come prepared with your questions and cover cropping ideas.

Brian Perillat, Manager, Canfax @brian_perillat

While most commodity prices and food prices have escalated rapidly, cattle prices have been slow to respond. High feed costs and a higher Canadian dollar have also been working against cattle prices. Cattle herds in North America are shrinking, but it will take time to work through the larger cattle numbers on the market due to drought and female liquidation. This presentation will outline the key supply and demand factors driving the current market, and outline key indicators to watch moving forward.

Ryan Boyd, 2019 Nuffield Scholar, South Glanton Farms @glantonboyd

Ryan, a 2019 Nuffield Scholar, will share his Nuffield journey to operations in Brazil, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States.  Can grazing ruminants become an integral part of the agroecosystems as they once were in the natural prairie landscape?  Ultra-high stock density grazing of perennial pastures and the use of crop residues as a feed source hold the keys to making a successful farming system including grazing ruminants. Join Ryan as he shares what he is now implementing in his operation.
